Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?

I was under the impression %26quot;less%26quot; is more on a newborn. Do you need to use a cream every single time you change a diaper even when they do not have a rash? I also didn't think wipes were bad to use on a newborn either. I only did exactly what the hospital nurses did and now, after my baby got a bad rash, everyone is telling me, %26quot;of course you are supposed to use diaper rash cream every time and you are not supposed to use wipes either, how did you not know this?%26quot;

they say..Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
no you are no supposed to use it every time because then the skin is staying constantly wet and it needs to be dry. which is the reason we change there diapers so much. and using wipes every diaper change should be fine on their skin as long as you are using the unscented kind. the scented ones tend to cause rashes.Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
You don't have to use any sort of cream unless there's visible irritation.

As far as the wipes go, many babies have no issues with them. Many babies react to the soap in them. If your baby has a sensitive booty it's totally okay to just wipe her with a damp cloth and forgo the soapy wipes.Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
Exactly, I was doing the same, wiping him and keeping him clean every-time and he was getting red butt, and when I stopped doing so his bum got back to normal, dont use it every time, maybe just at night, and only wipe him when he poops, or when he's really wet, otherwise I would just change his diapy if hes just a lil wet...

good luck, try it and seeShould you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
You shouldn't use cream unless there is a rash and make sure hos bottom is dry before you put the cream on or else it just holds the moisture in and creates more problems. I never heard that you weren't supposed to use diaper wipes?! I always did and never had problems, but I always used the %26quot;unscented%26quot; ones.Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
No, i don't use diaper rash cream at every diaper change. The only time i use it if she's on antibiotics (because i know they cause diareah) and if she already has a little rash starting. She has only gotten a rash from antibiotics and being sick.Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
When baby has a rash its best to use a washcloth cause the alcohol can irritate the rash. If you think they may be sensitive to the wipes i wouldnt use them at all. They give my daughter a fire red bum so some babies are sensitive to them.

As for cream only use a zinc cream when the baby has a rash or if their bum is red you can put some on. Vaseline is good as a moisture barier on every change and we did use it every change until about 4 months. Now i dont. But the vaseline also will help with poopies as it cant stick as bad!... You dont need to use a rash cream every time though no not at all. As for wipes thats all about what your baby can take. We use washcloths due to sensitives bums and well it saves a whole lot of money.

Good Luck.Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
DOnt use cream everytime you change the baby unless the baby really does have a rash, wipes are ok to use too you need them actually, the way babys get rashes is if there bottom is too moist all the time so alot of cream and a lot of wetness dosent help, use a wipe, and use baby powder on the babys bottom, but make sure his/her butt is dry before you put the diaper back on. Hope this helps, and congratulationsShould you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
You should actually not use anything at all, especially on a newborn...and that goes for moisturizer too...they do not need it and their skin is sooo sensitive, it can actually make it worse.

If your newborn has a rash, use cornstarch...it actually works better than any cream out there. It is natural and pulls all the moisture away from the skin leaving baby dry. I only ever used cornstarch, and my son's diaper rash didn't ever last longer than a few hours...buy the next diaper change it was gone. The diaper rash creams actually make it worse...eventually it gets better, but not as quick as cornstarch.

Wipes are okay, as long as they are perfume free, but you can simply use a wet cloth if you would like. If the baby has diaper rash, the wipes may irritate it, so just keep an eye out for that. The huggies wipes are only damp...hardly wet at all, so they work well.

No worries...it is had to know what to do as a new mom...we have all been there and we are still learning new things all of the time!!

You also don't need to use moisturizer on a new born, they shed one layer and grow 2 new layers in the first few weeks, so putting moisturizer on a newborn will actually prevent their layer from shedding, so don't worry about the dry skin, unless it is really bad. But you can use olive oil on dry skin or cradle cap too, it really helps!

Keep up the great work!!

EDIT: Don't worry, you have not done anything wrong, and there is NO NEED to be putting ANYTHING other than the diaper on them. People who are using vaseline constantly are actually doing more harm than good. Yes it provides a watertight seal...but our skin needs to breath! We cannot drain toxins through our pores if they are blocked. On the other hand, our skin will not allow anti-inflammatory cells into the skin either, so why use it? Well, people use it because their moms did and their moms did and their moms did...not because it actually has any use or if they even researched it or not. The point is, a baby's skin is so sensitive (and you have realized that your son may be even more sensitive) and using contaminants like creams/pastes etc only makes it works by blocking the pores and not allowing the skin to breath. Our diapers are so absorbent now, even when they are full they are not %26quot;wet%26quot;, a baby in a wet diaper is not sitting in fluid, that is the job of the diaper, to keep the skin dry. As I mentioned, believe it or not, the best diaper rash treatment is cornstartch! It really is! My mom had bought me some zincofax, penaten, aveno rash cream and they only made the diaper rash worse. I did try them, also because I was a new mom and had not researched it yet. I was also told by my midwife, doc and hospital staff to stay away from the creams and to use the cornstatch because it will actually pull the moisture away. Any time my son has had a hint of a rash (which has not been very often) I used the cornstarch and it took care of it quickly! And I wasn't blocking pores while doing it. Read this article...it may help!

Bottom line...there is no %26quot;supposed to%26quot;...I would take the advice of the nurses and hospital staff over people who don't actually know and are only doing what their mom, and their mom and their mom etc did. Doesn't mean it is right. Don't be hard on yourself, you did nothing wrong....you know your baby...try out the cornstarch when he gets a rash...if it works great! You can also try creams...but really, there is no need for it on every diaper change, especially if there is no rash!

You WERE right!! LESS IS MORE!!Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
No, I don't use diaper rash cream everytime. Only when my daughter gets red. I do, however, use Vitamin A%26amp;D Ointment with every change - I think it's pretty similar to using Vaseline as others mentioned.

I always used wipes from the time she was born, but I've always bought the unscented or newborn kind that say they are as gentle as pure water.Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
my daughter is 3weeks and everytime i change her diaper i use vitamin a %26amp; d ointment. and yes i do this everytime. i was told to do this and so far she is ok with no diaper rash :) as far as the wipes...i use then only because i have a girl and i dont want her 2 get any kind of infection. she does well with them. so im happyShould you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
Generally, you dont use diaper rash cream every single diaper change. And yes most people use baby wipes. It just so happens that your baby has very sensitive skin and is more prone to rash and irritation. Try getting baby wipes that say %26quot;sensitive%26quot; and always use unscented ones no matter what.

also, you do need to at least wipe with something, whether unscented wipes or a damp cloth. Cause if you don't, urine that is on their bottom can give a rash .Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
Personally for me I have always changed my son, wiped him well with unscented wipes and let him completely dry, then applied vasaline and then his new diaper. If I am out somewhere I may not use vasaline but I do a lot, he is 9 months old and never had diaper rash, even after cutting 8 teeth and being on antibiotics so it definatley has worked for us. I wouldn't use diaper rash creme unless they have a diaper rash though and use unscented wipes or a washcloth with just water if your lil one has sensitive skin. Congratulations!Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
You can but there's no rule that says you should. I personally do not and I think whoever tried to make you feel bad about the rash is screwed up in the head. You can use diaper wipes and there's no need for rash cream normally. The fact that your baby got a rash early on may be because he/she is sensitive to the diapers and you might go to sensitive diapers and wipes and see if it helps. Good luck I hope it clears up soon. You did NOTHING wrong!Should you use diaper rash creme or vasaline every single diaper change?
You don't need to use diaper rash cream unless there is a rash, otherwise i just use vaseline and this seems to work very well. My baby used to get diaper rashes every so often and i would use the cream instead of the vaseline at that time at every changing until the rash went away then I'd return to using the Vaseline. As for using wipes everyone i know that has children has used wipes with no problems, the only time that I have seen it cause a problem is with my one friends baby he had allergic reactions to the wipes and his mom just used a baby cloth with some warm water to clean it at the changings that worked well. Otherwise I don't see why wipes would be to blame for this.
