How much should we pay our babysitter?

My husband and I are new parents. We do not know how much to pay our babysitter. Our baby is 2 months old. The sitter is 16. The sitter comes to the house one day for 8 hours, and another for 4 hours (so a total of 12 hours a week). All she has to do is change diapers as needed, and do a couple of feedings. The rest of the time she either just snuggles the baby, or reads to the baby. If the baby is calm or sleeping the sitter is free to watch tv, eat our food, etc. We don't know how much we should pay her. Help! How much should we pay our babysitter?
since she gets to eat your food and the baby is only 2 months old I would pay her 40.00 a week. How much should we pay our babysitter?
Because there is only one child, you shouldn't make the pay too high. But because it is a baby and requires special care, do not make it too low either.

I would ask her if around $4 dollars was okay, and if not go to $5. You and her should work out a plan yourself, but do not pay her more than $8 dollars. That kind of money should only belong to sitters who babysit multiple children. How much should we pay our babysitter?
i am doing basicly the exact same thing. i am being paid 7 and hour. and thats is ok. you have to think that gas is going up and so is the price of everything else. Just keep that in mind, and talk to the babysitter, if you trust her enough to watch your baby, then you should trust her to help set the price.

hope that helped

When I did babysitting at that age, I got $120 per week, but that was for sitting 40 hours a week, not 12. So, about $3 per hour. Of course, that was 10 years ago, so today $5 might be more reasonable. Why don't you talk to her about how much she would like you to pay?How much should we pay our babysitter?
i would prolly do 5 bucks an hour.it still has to be worth her while..and i was getting 5 bucks an hour like ten years ago..so i think it's probably ok for 16...it's not like tax is coming out..How much should we pay our babysitter?

Generously. She is taking care of your most prized possession as well as your home. Most people are well acquainted with teenagers they have babysiting so i'm sure she has good ideal of your situation. Personally, $10.00 an hour, more if possible. Good babysitters are worth their weight in gold. Better pay you have a more diligent worker. Teenagers are just like us they want to be appreciated. I'm sure she really does love and enjoy spending time with your child. She is in position of great trust and responsibility which should be reflected in wages. What is it like when child is throwing up has the runs cries uncontrollable developes high fever, etc.? Watching television and eating are not relevant. Mini perks that comes with the job. Seem to put too much in what she doesn't do instead of what she is doing. If income doesn't allow set her down and tell how much she is appreciate and would love to pay her true value. Tell her that no matter what. Perhaps, cash on evenings out could be cut back freeing up extra for her?How much should we pay our babysitter?
