How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?

He squirms and turns over. He wont stay still and my back is huring from struggling so much. This happens during diaper changes and if I am changing his clothes. I try giving him toys but that doesnt work. Is this normal or is my baby just way too active? Yes, this is my first child. How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
When babies learn to move they don't want to sit still for a while, especially for diaper changes. I will make faces or funny noises to distract them in what I am doing. They will look at me and laugh or try to mimic me. I will make popping sound or I will make %26quot;purring%26quot; sounds and use my voice to raise and lower the tone. My son thinks it is funny to see me do this and he will try to copy me.

But have all things ready to go...put out a few wipes and have them next to you, diaper all set to go and lotions set. Then go as fast as you can.How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
With my son, I found that giving him a special toy only for diaper changes kept him interested in what he had and the change was over before he knew what was happening.

The toy had to stay up on the table for changing only and is still there even as a toddler nearing 2 years old.

It still works for him....he is very strong and squirmy now...the little stuffed dog keeps his attention for long enough to get the change done and his clothes back on him.

Then he pats the dog on the head and keeps him right where he should be.How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
Make a pre-emptive Strike ! Change the diaper while he's sleeping !How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
Yes its normal. Give him a cold wash cloth. The tactile stimulation of it will entice him enough to hold still. You can also try wearing something funny on your head. How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
same thing here...I just go with the flow...follow his every move until you get it done. Sorry there is no easy answer. Sometimes I give him the phone because he likes to press the buttons and listent to the beep...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Patience is the key, I keep telling myself that he won't be like this forever, soon he'll love to dress himself. How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
my 19 month old still does this. I have a few interesting items set aside that I allow him to look at or play with while he is being changed, it distracts him and he is usually calmer, I use like a old cell phone, or a remote control, and a calculator. strange things, but it keeps him still. How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
This is normal. My 11 month old tries to crawl away. Her little bare butt is very cute but I have learned to have everything ready. Try sliding the clean diaper under the dirty one, use the wipe then fasten the clean one as soon as you remove the dirty one.How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
Yes this is normal...but I suggest singing to him. It helps for me!!How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
Ha ha, get used to it because from now for the next 5 years he won't want to sit still for anything!!!

I would say your baby is 100% normal. Babies are just so busy discovering things that they don't want to sit still for a few minutes in case they might %26quot;miss%26quot; something.

One thing that sometimes worked for my son was to give him something safe, but that he normally was not allowed to play with. Like a spatula from the kitchen, or the remote control, something to keep him occupied. Then you had better learn the art of speed changing! lol

Good luck, and enjoy your little one!!!How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
at that age they are learning that they can move a lot Is he crawling yet? i would say give him a toy, a cookie (if he can have them or some keys or something just to keep him distracted. my son is now 18 months and he sits perfectly still now for diaper changes he even goes and gets a diaper when he needs changed. however he still wants my cell phone during diaper changes and i still give it to him. just dont give him somethikng that you dont want him to use all the time. i choose not to give my son cookies because i knew the change of him wanting one every time he has a diaper change. just remember dont get mad at him for it because he doesnt know any better yetHow do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
Tape or staple a couple pictures on the cealing above his changing table. Make them be pictures of things he likes. This is a trick I learned at the daycare I worked at and it works. How do I get my 8 month old to stay still during diaper changes?
