Help! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?

My partner and I are at our wits end. We both dread changing diapers because as soon as the diaper is off, our nine month old son flips over and tries to crawl away. He has a changing table and even if he is strapped down with the little strap he can still turn over. Changing diapers has become a huge hassle. I have mastered the standing up diaper change, but lately my son will not stand up to let me put the diaper on. I lift him up, and then he lets his knees go limp and tries to sit down. Any ideas on how we can get our son to lay down and hold still while we're changing? I am not the fastest diaper changer in the world but when I have to struggle to get him wiped and get the diaper on, it takes twice as long. Making funny faces while I changed him worked ONCE. Please help...Help! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?
do it on the floor with a favorite blankie and toy, put your leg over his chest and go quick, make sure you have everything ready have the wipes ready to be used and the tags already pulled away from the diaper, that way its only a laydown, take off, wipe, put on and fasten.

With my son when he was around 11 months old, we were in the same situation so we ended up getting store brand pull up diapers. It ended the fighting to getting the diaper on right.Help! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?
LOL. I have learned the artful skill of putting on a new diaper while baby is crawling away, twisted sideways, and while rolling. I can usually hold his legs in the air with one hand while I use the other to wipe... it helps to lay out the new diaper under the old one beforehand because it makes for faster fastening once you get the dirty diaper out of the way ( and out of baby's reach!)Help! Honestly, and this is gonna sound harsh, but sometimes I have to pin my daughter down as she is EXACTLY the same. I also found that;

- Chatting to her and just generally being loud made a difference,

- Offering her a toy/wipe/nappy to play with,

- Put the TV on so she's distracted by that,

- Giving her something she's not usually allowed (mobile phone, tv remote etc).

Have everything ready when you change your son - bottles caps off the lotion, wipe packet open, nappy open.

Put a stash of random things next to the changing table like: a clothespin, chip clip, old cell-phone, empty CD case, toilet paper tube, and other things that might fascinate him. Give him one or two things while you change his diaper. I have to do the same with my 1 yr old all the time. I find something that she might find interesting so I can hurry up and change her diaper. I stopped using the changing station at 8 months because my baby just rolled over, what I do now is lay him on the floor and give him the wipes to play with he loves the noise of the bagHelp! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?
I had the same problem with my 8 month old. I let him hold a wipe and play with it, or a small toy... anything to keep him occupied for a bit so that I can change him and not make a big mess.Help! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?
Give him a toy that is only allowed during diaper changes. Sometimes I let my son play with the diaper wipes box or a wipe itself lol. Singing songs also helps.Help! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?
My 7 month old does this to us. I do my darnest to keep her feet in my right hand and my left arm on her chest. It's not easy! As far as I know there's no magic %26quot;hold still!!!%26quot; button.Help! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?

i have the same issue =] just give him a toy to play withHelp! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?
I no longer change my son on the floor for this reason. I just try and entertain him on the changing table. Lately the Temporal Artery Thermometer that my MIL gave us has been working really well - it lights up AND beeps when he presses the button. And he seems to have realized that if he gives it back to me, the diaper change is over, so after the first few times of fussing, he now does it willingly.

Something else that also worked for me was chewing gum and blowing bubbles while I was changing him - he has to stay face up to see them. I kept gum on the changing table for a while for this purpose.

I have made faces at him, given him a clean diaper or wipe to play with and tried to get him to do his tricks (blowing raspberries, clapping hands, etc.)Help! My son keeps crawling away when I change his diaper?
My son has been doing this since he was about 9 months; he's 14 months now. He has got better and will sometimes lie down and let me change him, but usually it's either a stand job or a struggle. Blowing on him sometimes helps as he starts laughing long enough for me to get the nappy on. I also tend to take off dirty nappy, wipe on the go, then put him on our single seat sofa to get his nappy on - he can't roll either way on there! It's something you just have to bear I'm afraid. Some people swap to pull up nappies, but I have reusables so this wasn't an option for me. To be honest, you just get used to it and apparently they will just lie down in the end....although I'm still waiting for this!
