How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?

My son is 11 months, a very sweet boy, for the most part good natured and an even temperament. But the moment you lay him down to change his diaper he tries to turn around, he grasps the changing table and is so strong he is able to pull himself up, etc., it is a battle every time. It has gotten to the point where the moment we lay him down he starts crying. I have a 4 yr old and I remember some fussing and kicking but never anything like this. I try to keep my composure, distract him but nothing seems to work and it is getting to be a nightmare. Any suggestions??How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
My stepdaughter used to freak out the minute I put her on those changing stations in stores and gas stations. I don't know what it was about them, but she would scream. I felt bad for the other people in the bathroom. A couple things you can try, if you haven't already, is singing to him (try to get him to %26quot;sing%26quot; along, talk to him to distract him, play with him (tickle, blow rasberries on his tummy etc) to try to make diaper changing fun, or try to give him a neat toy he only gets when he gets his diaper changed to keep him distracted and interested. Hope this helps. How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?

Just do it quick, don't fuss too much, just do it like an Indy %26quot;Pit Stop%26quot; ! Thats what I do... A real mess ? then it's a blast in the shower, soap, rinse, and a quick %26quot;Diap%26quot; Diap%26quot;, it's faster, try it !How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
Maybe you can give him one of his favorite toys to play with or a book.. one of those hard teething cookies that he can knaw on while you are changing him.How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
My daughter was like diapering a greased alligator with all the wiggling and such- so I got the idea to hang some toys from the ceiling above her changing table - and when the crucial getting the sticky tabs on the right spot came, i would hit them..... and make them swing -and slap that diaper shut as fast as i could while she was distracted by the swinging. maybe something with noise, birds, sun etc and change it often. might work for a while, anyways. I have first-hand experience with this situation. For me and my family, the best solution was a cattle prod. If you cannot afford one, a stun gun works almost as effectively. How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
It's very typical. Lots of kids make a fuss because they just don't want the interuption. I would try giving him a warning that in let's say 2 minutes you're going to change his diaper. When 2 minutes is up tell him it's time for a diaper change. Pick him up and do the diaper change. Try to make it so that he can go back to exactly what he was busy doing before the diaper change as soon as you're done changing him. Talk to him about how it will only take 2 minutes and then he can go right back to doing whatever it was he was doing. Reassure him that he needs to have a clean diaper because otherwise he will get a sore butt from having a rash and that would feel awful. Just do the diapering efficiently and let him get back to what he wants to be doing. He will eventually learn -- and as you explain it to him -- that diaper changes are just something he has to put up with and there's no choice about it. It is a drag to have to put up with him making a fuss over it several times a day but, this too shall pass.

You could also try having a special toy (doesn't matter at all what it is) that he gets to hold only during diaper changes. So you say let's go change your diaper and you can play with (or hold) whatever item it is. Make it the same item all the time and make it only available to him during diaper changes. When the diaper change is done, you say ok now let's put such and such away and you can have it again when we need to change your diaper again. It may sound silly but it's kind of like a transitional object and it might just do the trick. How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
im going through that with my 10 month old right now lol he seems so strong always rolls over cries ect. what i find works sometimes i say look what mommies got then i give him something hes never seen or something he sees rarely, like the powder or something or diaper or i sing old mic donald to him or abc's and in each third letter i say it louder he seems to like that but when hes not into it i just put his diaper on while hes the wrong way lol sometime a bottle helps tooHow do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
My 11 year old was like this too... I had a silly hat with antennae and googly eyes that I wore and made faces at him during diaper changes. If we were out in public, I'd give him a special toy that was reserved for diaper changes only. Good luck! How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
My daughter does the same thing. Its almost like a game as soon as the diaper comes off she runs. I just end up letting her go for a few minutes diaperless. Its cute (what baby booty isn't) and then I can usually convince her to lay down after a few minutes. Singing and letting her play with a clean diaper works. Perhaps if you buy a new toy that he can only have during diaper changes that may convince him to be still for a few. Just remember this will pass and you'll miss those naked booty chasing days...lolHow do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
My son is 1 yr 4months and STILL has this problem!! It's so frustrating sometimes. What you have to do is distract your baby. Find something for them to play with while you change the diaper real fast. I found that I have to tempt my sons with things besides his own toys. Like maybe my keys, something they dont see all the time. That way it keeps their attention for as long as you need. It also helps to have your wipes, diapers and powder right there and ready to use. Makes the process much faster and easier. How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?

I used a changing table MAYBE 4 times, and my son just turned 13 months. I use the bed or the floor.

My son is the EXACT same way. I have found that putting on his favorite show (thank god for DVR) and lay in the middle of the living room floor. Also give him a bottle, or sippy, a toy, or something he is normally not allowed to have (your cell phone, remote control, ect) to keep him occupied. I now only deal with him turning and having trouble changing his diaper maybe once a week. How do you deal with an 11 month old crying and fussing during diaper changes, etc.?
I've worked with children many years as a daycare provider and nanny and have seen this a number. Try changing his diaper on the bed or even the floor. He may be insecure with heights. Have every thing on hand so that the change goes as quickly as possible.
